The Whittet-Higgins BASI-16 is a Bearing Assembly Socket — an installation tool engineered to install, preload, and secure the company's 16 TPI (16 threads-per-inch) inch-series bearing retainers, namely the NI retaining nuts and BHI Bearhug locknuts. It encapsulates the outside diameter of the locknut to prevent slipping and applies even force through four hardened pins that engage the nut's spanner slots, while a standard square drive connects to ratchets, torque wrenches, or pneumatic drivers.
