Whittet-Higgins BL-26 Locknut
The Whittet-Higgins BL-26 is a BEARLOK mechanical self-locking bearing retaining nut that threads onto a shaft or spindle to position and secure bearings, sleeves, and other components against an axial shoulder. Tightening its socket-head cap screws draws a hardened alloy compression ring into uniform 360-degree clamping contact with the shaft threads, locking the nut without damaging the threads and allowing infinite adjustment and preloading with longitudinal (Z-axis) access to the assembly.
Its balanced design suits high-speed and high-precision assemblies, while the self-locking action resists loosening from vibration, shock, and torque and eliminates the need for a separate locknut, lockwasher, or shaft keyway. The BL-26 pairs a carbon steel base threaded nut with a hardened alloy compression ring and fasteners, is manganese phosphate coated for corrosion resistance, and meets and exceeds the specifications of ANSI/ABMA 8.2-1999.

About the brand
About Whittet-Higgins
Bearing locknuts, lockwashers and retaining devices from Rhode Island since 1914.
Henry Whittet and John Higgins founded the Whittet-Higgins Manufacturing Company in 1914 in the basement of a mill on Congress Avenue in Providence, Rhode Island, making super-precision bearing retaining components and machined parts for local machine builders such as Brown & Sharpe.
In 1967 the company was sold to a young mechanical engineer, and in 1969 it moved to 33 Higginson Avenue in Central Falls, Rhode Island, where it still makes its products. Its first line of 66 locknuts and lockwashers has grown to more than 4,300 standard parts, made on robotic CNC systems.
Besides the standard N/AN and KM locknuts with W and MB lockwashers, Whittet-Higgins makes its own self-locking designs: Bearhug prevailing-torque locknuts, Bearlok, Shoelok and Tangentlok clamping locknuts, clampnuts and splitnuts, plus adapter sets, clamp collars and installation tools. The company is family owned and operated.
