Overview
Whittet-Higgins CNC14-9S Clampnut corrosion resistant steel
The Whittet-Higgins CNC14-9S is a one-piece, mechanically self-locking clampnut with a coarse (UNC) thread, designed to retain and preload components on a threaded shaft without a separate locknut and lockwasher. Locking and adjustment are achieved through a tangential (X-axis) socket-head clamp screw that contracts the threaded body around the shaft, providing infinite adjustment and preload while not damaging the shaft threads. The standard nut uses a carbon steel base with a hardened alloy clamp screw and a black oxide with wax finish for corrosion resistance, with stainless steel and aluminum alloy versions also offered in the same series. It carries a maximum operating temperature rating of 300 deg F, is manufactured in the USA, and is RoHS compliant.
Key features
- One-piece mechanically self-locking clampnut - no separate locknut or lockwasher required
- Tangential (X-axis) socket-head clamp screw allows locking and adjustment from the side
- Infinite adjustment and preloading capability
- Coarse (UNC) thread series
- Carbon steel base nut with hardened alloy clamp screw and black oxide with wax finish (stainless steel and aluminum alloy variants available)
- Maximum operating temperature of 300 deg F
- Does not damage shaft threads when secured; resists loosening from vibration, shock, and torque
- Manufactured in the USA and RoHS compliant

About the brand
About Whittet-Higgins
Bearing locknuts, lockwashers and retaining devices from Rhode Island since 1914.
Henry Whittet and John Higgins founded the Whittet-Higgins Manufacturing Company in 1914 in the basement of a mill on Congress Avenue in Providence, Rhode Island, making super-precision bearing retaining components and machined parts for local machine builders such as Brown & Sharpe.
In 1967 the company was sold to a young mechanical engineer, and in 1969 it moved to 33 Higginson Avenue in Central Falls, Rhode Island, where it still makes its products. Its first line of 66 locknuts and lockwashers has grown to more than 4,300 standard parts, made on robotic CNC systems.
Besides the standard N/AN and KM locknuts with W and MB lockwashers, Whittet-Higgins makes its own self-locking designs: Bearhug prevailing-torque locknuts, Bearlok, Shoelok and Tangentlok clamping locknuts, clampnuts and splitnuts, plus adapter sets, clamp collars and installation tools. The company is family owned and operated.
