Description
The Whittet-Higgins SNC24-6 is a two-piece, coarse-thread splitnut that mechanically self-locks to retain bearings and other components on a threaded shaft. It assembles onto the shaft without removing existing power-transmission components and reduces the chance of cross-threading during installation.
Locking is achieved tangentially: a hardened alloy socket-head cap screw clamps the split base nut closed, providing increased holding power with X-axis access for adjustment and removal. This splitnut design replaces a traditional locknut and lockwasher, does not damage shaft threads when secured, and resists assembly seizure in cold or corrosive conditions.
The base threaded nut is carbon steel with a hardened alloy fastener, finished in black oxide with a wax coating to help prevent corrosion. Rated to a 300°F maximum operating temperature, it is manufactured in the USA and RoHS compliant.
