Description
The Whittet-Higgins SNS16-16S is a two-piece splitnut shaft locknut with a fine 16-threads-per-inch pitch, used to retain, preload, and finely adjust bearings and other power transmission components on a threaded shaft or spindle. It is mechanically self-locking: a tangential (X-axis) socket head cap screw closes the split nut body to clamp it onto the shaft thread, delivering high assembly holding power without damaging the threads and without cutting or repairing a keyway.
The base threaded nut is carbon steel paired with a hardened alloy fastener and protected by a black oxide coating with a wax finish to resist corrosion, with a stainless steel version available for corrosive environments. Rated for operation up to 300 degrees F, the SNS16-16S installs without removing existing power transmission components, provides finer adjustment and greater axial loading capacity in larger diameters, and is manufactured in the USA to be RoHS compliant. It conforms to the Mechanical Self-Locking design standard.
