Bearing index guide

Find the right bearing fast. The Apollo Bearing Index covers 225,000+ part numbers from 100+ brands, including SKF, FAG, INA, NSK, NTN, Timken, Koyo and NACHI, with 15,000+ recorded cross-references. Enter any manufacturer part number to find equivalent bearings, decode what every prefix and suffix means, search by dimensions (bore, outside diameter, width), or find the bearings inside a specific machine.

How to cross-reference a bearing

  1. Enter the part number on the bearing or in the parts list, for example SKF 6205-2RS1/C3. Brand names are optional.
  2. Review the equivalents. Each result says how it was matched: same family, verified interchange, ISO-equivalent, or catalog cross-reference.
  3. Confirm bore, outside diameter and width, then the suffixes: seals or shields, internal clearance, cage and precision. Dimensions that disagree with the family are flagged.
  4. Request a quote on the equivalent you want. Our team confirms availability, pricing and lead time.

Bearing interchange FAQ

What is a bearing interchange or cross-reference?

A bearing interchange (or cross-reference) is an equivalent bearing from a different manufacturer that shares the same boundary dimensions (bore, outside diameter, width) and the same key features, so it can replace the original in the same application.

How do I find an equivalent for an SKF, FAG, NSK or NTN part number?

Type the manufacturer part number into the search box. The Apollo Bearing Index returns the same designation family from every brand it knows, plus verified interchanges and ISO-equivalent designations, ranked by how well they match your suffixes.

Do suffixes like 2RS, ZZ, C3 or P5 matter when cross-referencing?

Yes. Suffixes describe seals or shields (2RS, ZZ), internal clearance (C3, C4), cage material (M, TVP2, ECP) and precision class (P5, P4). A correct interchange matches these features, not just the base number. If no exact variant is on file the tool shows the family and tells you which attribute it relaxed.

What does "ISO-equivalent" mean on a result?

The two designations describe the same ISO 15 / ISO 355 boundary dimensions and series under different manufacturer grammars (for example SKF 6205 and Fafnir 205K). They are derived from the designation system rather than from a manufacturer's own interchange table, so confirm suffixes and load ratings before you order.

What is the difference between UCP205 and UC205?

UC205 is the insert bearing alone: a wide-inner-ring ball bearing with a spherical outside diameter and set-screw locking, 25 mm bore. UCP205 is that insert fitted in a cast pillow-block housing. UCF, UCFL and UCT use the same insert in four-bolt flange, two-bolt flange and take-up housings. A dash number such as UCP205-16 marks an inch bore (16/16 = 1 inch).

How do I read Schaeffler designations like NU2332-E-M1 or 6206-C-2HRS?

FAG writes suffixes with hyphens: NU2332 is the base (cylindrical roller, 160 mm bore), E is the high-capacity design, M1 a machined brass cage. On 6206-C-2HRS, C marks the Generation C deep groove design and 2HRS a contact seal on both sides (the older designation was 6206-2RSR). Paste either form and the decoder explains each token.

What do inch R-series numbers like R8 or R12 mean?

Inch deep groove ball bearings use an R number where the bore is that many sixteenths of an inch: R8 is 1/2 inch (12.7 mm), R12 is 3/4 inch (19.05 mm), R16 is 1 inch. The tool converts them so you can search in either unit.

What do the confidence tiers mean?

Family match means the same designation family from another brand. Verified interchange is a cross-reference confirmed by manufacturer catalog evidence with matching dimensions. ISO-equivalent is derived from the designation system. Catalog cross-reference is a published assertion we could not fully dimension-check; treat it as a lead, not a guarantee.

Can I search for a bearing by its dimensions instead of a part number?

Yes. Use the Dimensions tab, or type the size straight into the search box (25x52x15, or 1-1/4 inch bore). Enter bore, outside diameter and width in millimetres or inches and choose how tight the match should be.

Can I find the bearings used in a specific machine?

Yes. The Equipment tab lists machines by category, manufacturer and model with the bearings at each position. Typing a machine name such as Haas VF-2 into the search box routes you there directly.

Is the Apollo Bearing Index free to use?

Yes. It is free, requires no account, and the data comes from manufacturer-published catalogs and designation standards. Request a quote from any result and our team confirms availability and pricing.

Are cross-referenced bearings guaranteed to be identical?

No. Cross-references are a reference aid compiled from manufacturer catalogs and designation standards. Always verify the original equipment manufacturer's specifications, fit and application requirements before purchasing.
