The brand

Nachi makes the steel before it makes the bearing.

Nachi-Fujikoshi has made its own special steel in Toyama since 1938 and its own bearings since 1939, an integrated production system from material to finished part. The bearing business grew out of cutting-tool manufacture and borrowed its grinding and heat-treatment know-how.

  • Since 1938

    Its own bearing steel

Standard Nachi bearings run on vacuum-degassed, high-carbon chrome bearing steel from Nachi's own Toyama steelworks, and the catalog load ratings are calculated on that material.

  • ISO normal to UP

Ground to the class you specify

Standard deep groove bearings are made to ISO normal tolerance (ABEC 1), with P6, P5, P4, P2 and Nachi class UP available. Raceways are ground on special machine tools and heat-treated for rolling-fatigue resistance.

  • Since 1964

Tools, heat treatment and bearings from one company

The bearing line started by applying Nachi's cutting-tool grinding and heat-treatment expertise to its own steel. In 1964 that heat-treatment technology became a business of its own, and the group still makes the furnaces, coatings and tools around the bearing.

  • 10 to 320 mm

One brand from a 10 mm bore to 320 mm

The North American line runs from 6800 to 6300 series deep groove ball bearings in 10 to 200 mm bores to spherical roller bearings up to 320 mm. Precision angular contact, BNH spindle and TAB ball screw support bearings cover machine tools at ABEC 7.

  1. Outer ring

The outer ring seats in the housing and carries the outer raceway; press on this ring only when fitting it into a housing.

  2. Inner ring

The inner ring presses onto the shaft and carries the bore, d on the drawing; Nachi designs its sealed and shielded variants for inner-ring rotation.

  3. Ball

Standard bearings use high-carbon chrome bearing steel balls to carry the load between the two raceways; a ceramic hybrid uses silicon nitride balls instead.

  4. Cage

The riveted pressed-steel cage keeps the balls spaced and guided; no suffix means pressed steel, G means polyamide, which is used below 120 °C.

  5. Raceway groove

The ground groove in each ring that the balls run in; Nachi grinds raceways on special machine tools and heat-treats the rings for rolling-fatigue resistance.

How a Nachi bearing is made

The steel comes first. Nachi has made its own bearing steel in Toyama since 1938, a year before its first bearing, and still does. Rings and rolling elements are heat-treated for rolling-fatigue resistance, raceways are ground on special machine tools, and each division has held ISO 9001 since 1995.

Nachi describes the result as an integrated production system from materials to end products: the group also makes the furnaces, coatings, cutting tools and machine tools around the bearing line.

FAQ

Questions buyers ask about Nachi bearings.

Short answers taken from Nachi's technical catalog and training manual. For a specific application, ask a bearing specialist.

What are Nachi bearings?

Nachi bearings are rolling bearings made by Nachi-Fujikoshi Corp. of Toyama, Japan, a company founded in 1928 that has made its own bearing steel since 1938 and bearings since 1939. The range covers deep groove and angular contact ball bearings, cylindrical, tapered and spherical roller bearings, and precision spindle bearings. Bearings are Nachi's largest product segment, about 36% of group sales in the year ended November 2025.

How do I read a Nachi part number such as 6205-2NSE9 C3?

Read it left to right. 6 is a single-row deep groove ball bearing, 2 is diameter series 2 and 05 is the bore number, which from 04 upward is multiplied by 5, so 25 mm; bore numbers 00 to 03 mean 10, 12, 15 and 17 mm. 2NSE9 is contact rubber seals on both sides, and the 9 is used on 10 to 50 mm bores. C3 is radial internal clearance greater than normal; the full structure, with cage, design and tolerance codes, is in the Technical Information PDF in the document library.

What is the difference between ZZE, 2NKE and 2NSE?

ZZE is a steel shield on each side: the lowest torque, good grease retention and dust exclusion, no water resistance, rated −25 to 120 °C with standard grease. 2NKE is a non-contact rubber seal on each side: torque close to a shield with better dust exclusion. 2NSE is a contact rubber seal whose lip runs on the inner ring: the best dust and water exclusion, slightly more drag, −25 to 100 °C with standard grease. All three are greased for life and should not be washed or heated before mounting.

What does C3 mean and when do I need it?

C3 is radial internal clearance greater than normal (CN). Nachi's U.S. training manual calls it the stock standard in the U.S., for higher speeds and for shafts where the inner ring runs hotter than the housing or has an interference fit. C4 is larger still, for high speed plus heat; C2 is smaller, for slow, precise applications. For a 25 mm bore, C3 is 13 to 28 µm of radial clearance against 5 to 20 µm for CN.

Do Nachi bearings interchange with SKF, NSK, NTN, FAG or Timken?

Dimensionally, yes: Nachi standard bearings use ISO 15 / JIS B 1512 boundary dimensions, so a 6205 is 25 × 52 × 15 mm from any brand. Match the suffixes, not only the basic number: distributor comparison tables list Nachi 2NSE beside SKF 2RS1, NSK DDU, NTN LLU and FAG 2RSR, and Nachi ZZE beside SKF 2Z and NSK ZZ, so confirm the seal, clearance and tolerance class against the catalog before substituting. Nachi does not publish a brand cross-reference; use Apollo's bearing interchange tool or ask a bearing specialist.

Where are Nachi bearings used?

Nachi lists automobiles, industrial machinery, railroads, construction machinery, machine tools and electric equipment as its bearing markets. Nachi America publishes application guides for machine tools, pumps, gearboxes, electric motors, steel mills, flour mills and crane sheaves, and ceramic hybrid bearings for motors where shaft current would arc through steel balls. Precision BNH and 7000C series bearings run the spindles of high-speed machining centers.

How do I know a Nachi bearing is genuine?

Nachi says counterfeit bearings are widespread in some countries, copy its trademarks, packaging and stamps, and can fail in service. Buy only through Nachi branches and authorized distributors. Every genuine box carries a data-matrix code; scan it with the World Bearing Association's Bearing Authenticator app for Android or iOS to confirm it, or visit stopfakebearings.com.

Where are Nachi bearings made?

Nachi makes bearings at the Mizuhashi and Nagaresugi plants in Toyama, Japan, and at group plants in Thailand, China, India, the Czech Republic, Brazil, Mexico and the U.S., where Nachi Technology Inc. in Indiana makes automotive bearings. Standard radial bearings have been consolidated in Thailand and special automotive bearings in Japan. The country of origin is printed on each box, so ask for it by part number rather than assuming one country.

How fast can Apollo ship, and do you quote quantity pricing?

Ask a bearing specialist with the part number and quantity; stock, lead time and quantity pricing are confirmed on every quote.

How do I choose the right Nachi bearing, and who can help?

Nachi's selection order is load type and magnitude, speed, misalignment, rigidity, noise, then mounting and dismounting, and the size is checked against rating life: L10 = (C/P)^p × 10^6 revolutions, with p = 3 for ball bearings and 10/3 for roller bearings. The Nachi digital catalog has calculators for bearing life, load, clearance and fits. If you have a drawing, a failed bearing or a competitor's part number, ask a bearing specialist and send what you have.
