Overview
Whittet-Higgins BHT-07 Bearhug locknut
The Whittet-Higgins BHT-07 is a BEARHUG heat-resistant bearing locknut: an all-metal, self-contained retaining device that threads onto a shaft to position, preload, and secure bearings, sleeves, and similar components against a shoulder. Its hardened alloy body carries high axial loads, while an integral spring-steel locking ring delivers prevailing-torque self-locking that holds the assembly tight against vibration, shock, and applied torque.
Because the locking action is built in, the BHT-07 installs faster than a traditional locknut-and-lockwasher pair, needs no cut or repaired shaft keyway, and does not damage the shaft threads when tightened, while still allowing infinite adjustment and preloading. Rated for continuous service up to 300°F, it meets and exceeds ANSI/ABMA 8.2-1999 and is manufactured in the USA to be RoHS compliant.
Key features
- All-metal construction for high-temperature resistance
- Prevailing-torque self-locking via an integral spring-steel locking ring
- Hardened alloy locknut body for high axial load capacity
- Maximum operating temperature of 300°F
- Meets and exceeds ANSI/ABMA 8.2-1999
- Installs faster than a traditional locknut and lockwasher; no shaft keyway required
- Infinite adjustment and preload without damaging shaft threads
- Manufactured in the USA and RoHS compliant

About the brand
About Whittet-Higgins
Bearing locknuts, lockwashers and retaining devices from Rhode Island since 1914.
Henry Whittet and John Higgins founded the Whittet-Higgins Manufacturing Company in 1914 in the basement of a mill on Congress Avenue in Providence, Rhode Island, making super-precision bearing retaining components and machined parts for local machine builders such as Brown & Sharpe.
In 1967 the company was sold to a young mechanical engineer, and in 1969 it moved to 33 Higginson Avenue in Central Falls, Rhode Island, where it still makes its products. Its first line of 66 locknuts and lockwashers has grown to more than 4,300 standard parts, made on robotic CNC systems.
Besides the standard N/AN and KM locknuts with W and MB lockwashers, Whittet-Higgins makes its own self-locking designs: Bearhug prevailing-torque locknuts, Bearlok, Shoelok and Tangentlok clamping locknuts, clampnuts and splitnuts, plus adapter sets, clamp collars and installation tools. The company is family owned and operated.

FAQ
BHT-07 questions & answers
What size is the Whittet-Higgins BHT-07?
The Whittet-Higgins BHT-07 is a Bearhug self-locking locknut. Thread: 1.376-18 (34.95 mm, 18 threads per inch). Outside diameter: 2.063 in (52.40 mm). Face diameter: 1.813 in (46.05 mm). Width: 0.433 in (11.00 mm). These are Whittet-Higgins' maximum sizes from its spec sheet.
What thread does the BHT-07 fit?
The Whittet-Higgins BHT-07 fits a 1.376-18 right-hand shaft thread (34.95 mm, 18 threads per inch).
Does the BHT-07 need a lockwasher?
No. The Whittet-Higgins BHT-07 locks itself: a heat-stabilized polymer locking ring grips the shaft thread (prevailing torque). It needs no lockwasher and no keyway in the shaft.
What tool installs the BHT-07?
Whittet-Higgins' BAS-07 assembly socket: it holds all four spanner slots and takes a square-drive ratchet or torque wrench. To clean or repair the shaft thread first, Whittet-Higgins makes the RTD-07 rethreading die.
What temperature can the BHT-07 take?
Whittet-Higgins rates the Bearhug BHT series (heat resistant) for up to 300 °F (149 °C).
What is the BHT-07 made of?
Locknut: hardened alloy; Locking ring: spring steel.
Is there a drawing or CAD model of the BHT-07?
Yes. Whittet-Higgins publishes a part print (PDF) and a 3D CAD model (STEP) for the BHT-07. The drawing on this page is made from the same catalog dimensions.
How do I install the BHT-07?
Follow Whittet-Higgins' assembly instructions for this part (PDF). In short: lubricate the shaft thread, turn the Bearhug on with its smaller bevel face toward the bearing, and tighten it with a spanner wrench or the BAS-07 assembly socket to the bearing maker's preload. Do not use it to push parts along the shaft.
Is this a genuine Whittet-Higgins locknut?
Yes. Apollo Industries is an authorized Whittet-Higgins retailer, and every Whittet-Higgins part we sell is genuine, made by Whittet-Higgins in Central Falls, Rhode Island, USA.
Do you ship the BHT-07 the same day?
In-stock orders placed by 3 PM EST ship the same day. All orders over $100 ship free by ground with code FREESHIP.
Can I get quantity pricing or buy tax-exempt?
Yes. Apollo offers special rates for businesses and bulk orders. Use Request a quote on this page or call (248) 429-9073.
