Description
The Whittet-Higgins CNS-44-16 is a one-piece clampnut with a 16 threads-per-inch fine-pitch thread that threads directly onto a shaft or housing to position, retain, and preload bearings and other components. A tangential (X-axis) socket head clamp screw draws the nut tight against the mating shaft threads to create a mechanical self-locking joint.
This self-locking action resists loosening from vibration, shock, and torque without damaging the shaft threads and without cutting or repairing a keyway. The finer 16 TPI thread pitch delivers greater axial loading capacity and finer adjustment and preload in larger diameters, while installing easier and faster than a traditional locknut-and-lockwasher combination.
The base CNS is built from carbon steel with a hardened alloy clamp screw and a black oxide with wax finish to resist corrosion; stainless steel and aluminum alloy versions are also offered.
