SKF Speedi-Sleeve Size Chart: Find Your Sleeve by Shaft Diameter
A leaking seal and a polished groove on the shaft don't have to mean a new shaft or a trip to the machine shop. An SKF Speedi-Sleeve is a thin stainless steel sleeve that presses over the worn seal track and gives the new seal a smooth running surface again. The wall is only 0.011 in (0.28 mm) thick, so you keep the original seal size. It usually is when the seal has worn a groove or polished band into an otherwise sound shaft. A simple test: if your fingernail catches in the worn track, a new seal on its own is likely to leak again. A sleeve restores the surface in a few minutes, with no machining and no oversized seal.
Choose a different repair when:
- A keyway, spline, cross hole or thread runs under the area the sleeve would cover. It would distort the thin sleeve.
- The sleeve can't slide on from the shaft end, for example because a pulley or coupling can't come off, or the shaft gets bigger between its end and the worn band.
- The shaft is bigger than 8 in (203 mm). The largest Speedi-Sleeve fits shafts up to 8.005 in. From 8.313 in (211 mm) up, SKF makes the LDSLV heavy-duty wear sleeve to order. It is heat-fitted, and its 0.094 in (2.39 mm) wall means either a seal for a 0.188 in (4.78 mm) larger shaft or machining the shaft down. Nothing standard covers 8.005–8.313 in, so ask us.
