Overview
Whittet-Higgins NI-11 Locknut
The Whittet-Higgins NI-11 is a bearing locknut from the NI series, threaded 16 threads per inch in the National Fine thread series for finer assembly adjustment and accurate angular positioning across numerous locking positions. Machined from carbon steel, it is used together with a matching WI series lockwasher, whose tab bends into a nut slot to secure, lock, and retain bearings and power transmission assemblies and to prevent loosening from vibration, shock, and torque.
Engineered for high axial loading applications, the NI-11 installs with no special tools and works effectively on both soft and hardened shafts. It is rated for operating temperatures up to 300°F, is manufactured in the USA, and is RoHS compliant.

About the brand
About Whittet-Higgins
Bearing locknuts, lockwashers and retaining devices from Rhode Island since 1914.
Henry Whittet and John Higgins founded the Whittet-Higgins Manufacturing Company in 1914 in the basement of a mill on Congress Avenue in Providence, Rhode Island, making super-precision bearing retaining components and machined parts for local machine builders such as Brown & Sharpe.
In 1967 the company was sold to a young mechanical engineer, and in 1969 it moved to 33 Higginson Avenue in Central Falls, Rhode Island, where it still makes its products. Its first line of 66 locknuts and lockwashers has grown to more than 4,300 standard parts, made on robotic CNC systems.
Besides the standard N/AN and KM locknuts with W and MB lockwashers, Whittet-Higgins makes its own self-locking designs: Bearhug prevailing-torque locknuts, Bearlok, Shoelok and Tangentlok clamping locknuts, clampnuts and splitnuts, plus adapter sets, clamp collars and installation tools. The company is family owned and operated.

FAQ
NI-11 questions & answers
What size is the Whittet-Higgins NI-11?
The Whittet-Higgins NI-11 is a locknut. Thread: 2.000-16 (50.80 mm, 16 threads per inch). Outside diameter: 3.000 in (76.20 mm). Face diameter: 2.688 in (68.28 mm). Width: 0.510 in (12.95 mm). These are Whittet-Higgins' maximum sizes from its spec sheet.
What thread does the NI-11 fit?
The Whittet-Higgins NI-11 fits a 2.000-16 right-hand shaft thread (50.80 mm, 16 threads per inch).
Does the NI-11 need a lockwasher?
Yes. Whittet-Higgins matches the NI-11 with the WI-11 lockwasher. The washer's inner tab sits in the shaft's keyway, and after tightening one of its outer tangs is bent into a slot of the locknut so the nut cannot turn.
What temperature can the NI-11 take?
Whittet-Higgins rates the Locknut NI series (16 TPI) for up to 300 °F (149 °C).
What is the NI-11 made of?
Locknut: carbon steel.
Is there a drawing or CAD model of the NI-11?
Yes. Whittet-Higgins publishes a part print (PDF) and a 3D CAD model (STEP) for the NI-11. The drawing on this page is made from the same catalog dimensions.
How do I install the NI-11?
Follow Whittet-Higgins' assembly instructions for this part (PDF). Fit the lockwasher with its inner tab in the shaft keyway, tighten the locknut to the bearing maker's preload, then bend the nearest tang into a slot.
Is this a genuine Whittet-Higgins locknut?
Yes. Apollo Industries is an authorized Whittet-Higgins retailer, and every Whittet-Higgins part we sell is genuine, made by Whittet-Higgins in Central Falls, Rhode Island, USA.
Do you ship the NI-11 the same day?
In-stock orders placed by 3 PM EST ship the same day. All orders over $100 ship free by ground with code FREESHIP.
