Whittet-Higgins SNS32-16S Splitnut
The Whittet-Higgins SNS32-16S is a two-piece splitnut shaft locknut with a fine 16-threads-per-inch pitch, used to retain, preload, and finely adjust bearings and other power transmission components on a threaded shaft or spindle. It is mechanically self-locking: a tangential (X-axis) socket head cap screw closes the split nut body to clamp it onto the shaft thread, delivering high assembly holding power without damaging the threads and without cutting or repairing a keyway.
The base threaded nut is carbon steel paired with a hardened alloy fastener and protected by a black oxide coating with a wax finish to resist corrosion, with a stainless steel version available for corrosive environments. Rated for operation up to 300 degrees F, the SNS32-16S installs without removing existing power transmission components, provides finer adjustment and greater axial loading capacity in larger diameters, and is manufactured in the USA to be RoHS compliant. It conforms to the Mechanical Self-Locking design standard.

About the brand
About Whittet-Higgins
Bearing locknuts, lockwashers and retaining devices from Rhode Island since 1914.
Henry Whittet and John Higgins founded the Whittet-Higgins Manufacturing Company in 1914 in the basement of a mill on Congress Avenue in Providence, Rhode Island, making super-precision bearing retaining components and machined parts for local machine builders such as Brown & Sharpe.
In 1967 the company was sold to a young mechanical engineer, and in 1969 it moved to 33 Higginson Avenue in Central Falls, Rhode Island, where it still makes its products. Its first line of 66 locknuts and lockwashers has grown to more than 4,300 standard parts, made on robotic CNC systems.
Besides the standard N/AN and KM locknuts with W and MB lockwashers, Whittet-Higgins makes its own self-locking designs: Bearhug prevailing-torque locknuts, Bearlok, Shoelok and Tangentlok clamping locknuts, clampnuts and splitnuts, plus adapter sets, clamp collars and installation tools. The company is family owned and operated.
