Description
The Whittet-Higgins TANGENTLOK TLN series is an inch-thread, mechanically self-locking bearing locknut used to position, retain, and preload bearings, sleeves, and similar components on a threaded shaft or adapter. It locks with tangential (X-axis) socket head cap screws that clamp the nut's internal threads uniformly 360 degrees to the centerline of the shaft, preventing the assembly from loosening under vibration, shock, and torque without damaging the shaft threads.
Its balanced design suits high-speed and high-precision assemblies and provides infinite adjustment and preloading without a keyway or a separate lockwasher, making it faster and easier to install than a traditional locknut-and-lockwasher arrangement. The base threaded nut is carbon steel with hardened alloy fasteners, is rated to a maximum operating temperature of 300°F, and meets and exceeds the specifications of ANSI/ABMA 8.2-1999.
